Local Initiatives

Local Initiatives

We live among some amazing community minded people and in a city filled with some incredible charitable organisations. We wish that we could assist all of these groups in one way or another, but our resources don't stretch that far!

Our strategy is to focus on select organisations each year who we feel reflect our core values and interests; we aim to support them through fundraising, donations, awareness raising and volunteering to enable them to assist young and/or needy people in our community. These are our Smellies community 'friends':

CHARITY

Cottage by the Sea children’s charity provides support and accommodation to families in crisis and offer seaside holidays to marginalised children in our community. Smellies owner, Amanda, has been an Ambassador for Cottage by the Sea for over 6 years and is on the committee that organises the annual charity race day that has raised over $75k for this organisation.  SPORT

Smellies are corporate sponsors of the St Mary's Sporting Club who support the active involvement of children/young adults in sport and provide a sound social environment for families and friends to come together through recreation and activity. Visit them at stmaryssc.com

HEALTH

Smellies has a small space within the St John of God Hospital Geelong selling floral designs and balloons to visitors and staff. A percentage of the sales from this stand are donated to the St John of God Hospital Auxiliary who channel those funds back into much needed services for patients. Visit them at sjog.org.au

WORK EXPERIENCE

Smellies has worked closely with many local secondary schools to provide work experience placements for young people interested in the florist industry. Over the years, many of these young people have gone on to be offered apprenticeships with Smellies and become full time, qualified florists.
